Serena Eley (GHR captain) is a graduate student in physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She earned her B.S. from the California Institute of Technology with a degree in physics, where she ran on the track and cross country teams. As an avid long distance runner, cyclist, backpacker, and world traveler, she hopes to become an adventure racer.

She earned her B.S. from the Cornell University with a degree in physics, where she was a member of the soccer team. As a marathoner who is becoming more active in the bike racing scene, she hopes to soon turn to triathlons.

Ava Czapalay is a veteran of 13 marathons and 8 half-marathons. She began her running career in the 5000m and 10,000m in high school track, was distracted with playing soccer for many years, and then launched her marathon career in 2003 with the National Capital Marathon in Ottawa, Canada (4:17). Ava is one of only a few marathoners to have run all six of the very hilly Halifax International Blue Nose Marathons (the second marathon was held during a hurricane). She lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia – on Canada’s East Coast – with her 3 children and dog – all runners. With a MEd in Education Psychology, she is the founding President of EduNova, an education and training export alliance.

She was the Director of Sustainability & Preservation for Struever Bros, Eccles & Rouse, an urban development company that specializes in mixed-use, historic preservation projects. A double physics and material science major at MIT, Fran ran on her college cross country and track teams.

Janelle Ralph grew up in Oregon and earned her BS in Elementary Education from George Fox University. After graduation, she taught English in China for 1.5 years. Afterwards, she married Ben and earned a Master's in Education. In 2007, Ben's job took them to Terre Haute, Indiana. She ran cross-country and track in both HS and college. Janelle also enjoys hiking, backpacking, biking, and hanging out with family and friends. She currently substitute teaches and hopes to someday have her own 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade class. She is currently on a quest to run a half-marathon in all 50 states while raising money for Team World Vision.
